Climbing in Achaia

Heaven is not…far in Achaia’s region. If you want to enjoy Achaia panoramically, you should climb up to its keylocations. There are lots of such locations for friends of mountaineering who like bending the wildness of the scenery only to confirm the eternal connection between human and nature. So, let’s climb up to Achaia’s rocky mountains.

Alepochori Climbing Area

Nature has placed it at Erymanthos’ foothills and…has decided that Teytheas bayou will water it. It belongs to Tritaia Municipality and it’s 27,8 klm away from Stayrodromi and 40 klm away form Patras.

There is a turnpike that leads to the village. There are 5 tracks offering 60 different routes with many possibilities. The landscape is alpine and the rocks are really amazing, with various colours and stalactitic decoration. There are also tracks with either western or eastern orientation, which means that, even under extremely sunny weather conditions, there will always be tracks with shadow.

Climbing routes are 25 m long max and usually have a negative grade. There are tracks with score varying from 6 to 9, although most of them are of score 9. Access to tracks is immediate and easy (up to 5 min)

Kalogria Climbing Area

Situated at an area truly gifted by nature, close to marvellous Kalogria beach, opposite to the unique Strofilia forest and Prokopos Lake and next to Dymaion wall. It belongs to Municipality of Larissos, being only 17,5 klm away from Metochi (capital of the municipality) and 45 klm from Patras.

There is a turnpike leading to the area and the area itself contains five tracks offering 20
traditional routes grading from 5 to 8, 60 sports routes grading from 5 to 10 and 20 tope rope grading from 6 to 8. The view from the mountains’ peaks is breathtaking as it combines sea, mountains and lake.

The orientation of the field is southern therefore the ideal period for climbing is from October to April. Access to tracks is immediate and easy (2-5 min)

Spartia (Grevenos) Climbing Area

Above Alepochori, close to Erymanthos’ west foothills there is Spartia reaching 800 metres. It belongs to Tritaia municipality being only 18,5 klm away from Stavrodromi (capital of the municipality) and 50klm from Patras. There is a turnpike leading to the area. Having reached the top, you will be able to enjoy the view to Olenos and mountain chain of Erymanthos. Orientation is northwestern. There are 10 routes grading from moderate to difficult.
Access to the field is immediate and easy (up to 5 min).

Skolis' Mountain Climbing Field

This mountaineers’ challenge is situated at Western Achaia, close to Santameri village. It belongs to Olenia municipality being only 17,5 klm away from Lousika (capital of the municipality) and 45klm from Patras. There is a turnpike leading to the area. There are two complexes to each side of Skolis Mountain

A) Hatzouri (towards Portes Village)

Its eastern orientation has made it the ideal destination for summer months. There are 2 tracks here. The first has got vertical thick rocks up to 80 m.(It consists of 8 routes grading from 7 to 8) while the second is a huge cave with some difficult routes even to
international standards.
Access is immediate and easy (5 and 15 min respectively)

B) Santameri

A bit above Santameri village, consisting of 4-5 small tracks western orientated. There are 15 routes grading from 7 to 9+.
